Introducing Monica Salazar

Monica Salazar is a Los Angeles Native and 4th generation Chicana with Native American Apache heritage born to parents who met in the Chicano Movement. She is not only a spoken word poet but author of the poetry book, “Wisdom Looks Good on Her” published with Alegría Publishing and soon to be published “For the Girls.” She is a curator, a facilitator of self love poetry workshops; a business owner and founder of Typaway Poetry, creating custom on the spot poems using a vintage typewriter.

She has collaborated with many businesses and nonprofit organizations, as well as colleges throughout Los Angeles county based on her on demand poetry and workshops like Dominguez College, American Cancer Society, Nordstrom, Adidas, PACSUN and Tiffany Co and featured on Spectrum TV. She has been featured for her spoken word throughout Los Angeles including Grand Performance Stage and Cheech Marine Museum to name a few. She has been awarded by the United States House of Representatives with a Certificate of Recognition applauding her achievements as a business owner and artist in service of her beloved Los Angeles community.

Monica Salazar is all about infusing healing power of the words for individuals in need of self empowerment, bringing individuals and communities in the forefront to be felt, seen, and heard. In her free time, she loves to do activist work, volunteer with youth, complete her masters in School Counseling and dance salsa and bachata
